James "Alabama" Campbell is born 1949 in Alabama, Usa. With 5 years he played piano and with 10 he began the first trio. In the sixties he worked as teacher of music in St. Louis and played in some bands. He has worked with Art Blakey, Nina Simone, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, B. B. King and many more. Later he became well known in Europe with the Utrecher Jazz Orchestra and the Tros Big Band. JAMES "ALABAMA" CAMPBELL can be recognized as "The best kept secret" within the Blues world. Mostly playing the piano at hotelbars or at diner parties it wasn't until 1994 that he was engaged on several festivals in Germany that the Blues Community became aware of him. As nowadays the Blues becoming a guitar-dominated artform with an endless line of new guitar-heros coming out each week, WTM is proud to present you the debut of one of the last real piano bluesmen alive!
