Cour des Miracles (court of miracles) grew out of the ashes of "Continuum" - an ambitious Portland, Oregon musical conglomeration (which included Group Du Jour co-founder Daniel Crommie) who played original songs and French renaissance tunes until disbanding in late 1982. Brothers Jamie Haggerty (guitar, dulcimer & mandocello) and Gary Haggerty (violin, mandocello, mandolin), Sarah Willner (viola) and Frenchman Jean Poulot (vocals, whistle & bouzouki) followed their passion of French, Balkan, Flemish and Bretagne folk music and joined with another duo: Robert Head (guitar, bass) and Jan Klumph (flute, hammered dulcimer), AKA Toots & Lefty to form Cour Des Miracles in early 1983. Playing at Folk festivals, coffeehouses and pubs throughout the Pacific Northwest they commanded a loyal following and in 1984 they booked Michael O'Rourkes' Grassroots Studio to record their only album "Musiques de France et de Bretagne". After some personnel changes - which for a time left the band a trio - they went their separate ways in 1988. Gary Haggerty now lives in San Francisco and performs with Stella Mara while Jamie Haggerty resides in Portland working with sound design and film soundtracks. Painstakingly remastered from the original 2-track analogue tape in 2000 by Jamie Haggerty, Cour Des Miracles' Musiques de France et de Bretagne stands as a timeless musical gem - a snapshot of another era. In June 2003, Dirty Line called Musiques de France et de Bretagne "an interesting curio for Francophiles and an improvement over the original cassette".
