The more myopic of critics may not initially see beyond the ubiquitous Nick Drake comparisons, especially, as Howard Doupe (BOBHOWLAS front man and creative force) manages to elicit similar depths of sensitivity via his heartfelt harmonies and crisp melodies. However, whereas the contemporarily collective headed by Coldplay, Starsailor, and Badly Drawn Boy tend to gravitate towards the epic, Doupe has remained faithful to the classic traits of song writing, an often under appreciated mantle shared by celebrated yet commercially bereft artists as Kevin Tihista, Ian McNabb and Roddy Frame.
With lyrics that are honest and uncomplicated, Good Times and July Is Ours, their fragility only matched by the strength of their intensity, manage to pierce the soul, while the opening and closing tracks, Time Is Fine and Somewhere, merely confirm that Doupe may well prove to be the culprit guilty of stealing the blueprint responsible for those once loved and longed for classics created by Mr N. Gallagher!
The future is therefore certainly bright and one only hopes that Doupes, BOBHOWLA remain true to their name and rise from the shadows and feed on the light of appreciation.

Another acoustic classic by Bobhowla. Written in the midst of years studying the song reflects life and love between two people. Starting off softly the song soon escalades into a whirlwild of floating guitars and gut feeling lyrics. This song will be liked by all those who enjoy the acoustic number from the likes of Oasis, Paul Weller and Starsailor. |
