All songs dedicated to My Loves Marg & Becca xxx Please check out my full list of songs at Soundclick.com ARTIST: MOONLIT RAIN SONG: 9TH STREET JAZZ GENRE: JAZZ / INSTRUMENTAL SIMILAR: GEORGE BENSON (1960'S JAZZ PHASE) 9th Street Jazz, eh? 9th Street must be a cool place, because the Jazz emanating from there has a sweet vibe! Maybe every town and city has a place like 9th Street - in the Toronto of my youth it was Markham Village. I can picture the late afternoon sun slanting, and people meandering through its soft gold, stopping at the boutiques windows , in no particular hurry. That's just like the song. It emerges out of a very laid-back drum beat intro, probably about a 90 tempo,I would guess, which lasts for some 7 bars and is joined by a very catchy bass line and two-chord synth progression. What follows is just under 3:00 minutes of gentle electric guitar innovation. Smooth is the word for the playing of Chris W. and Moonlit Rain. You're listening to a guy who is not trying to prove anything, just displaying something,a cool touch and a sweet sound. Oh,there's nothing happening here that will make you drop your jaw in wonder, perhaps, but it should loosen your muscles and make you smile for a while! Yeah,I guess the lead is the main point of the piece, but the bass is very catchy and my foot tapped through all four of my auditions. There is no pain whatsoever in repeated plays of this soft little piece. It meanders on its smooth, happy way,in no particular hurry:just like the people on 9th Street or Markham Vilage... OVERALL: 7.40 9th Street Jazz" by Moonlit Rain Easy jazz man let me down slow. Solid drums, heavy bottom end and some moody strings. Smooth jazz guitar all over it like chocolate topping on an ice-cream Sunday. The neon lights shimmer in the heat. In the misty darkness down by the riverside you can hear the jazz risin' out of the clubs as the witching hour approaches. That hot summer night I decided to take a walk and followed the sound down to Joe's place. Very stylistic and a change up from what you hear a lot of these days. One night I was playing a club in L.A. called the Mirabelle and in walked George Benson and handed me the keys to his Rolls and a boot leg tape of himself playing guitar with himself. I sat there in the red plush interior awe struck and listened to a master play a tape that sounded like magic and much like this song. You keep good company brother John De Boer
