Legend recalls that Lao Tzu was keeper of the Emperor’s library. . At age 80 (in about 500 BC), he was discouraged that people were resistant to learn the way to simple virtue, so he left China, to what is now Tibet. The border guard (at the Hang Pass), asked him to write down his understanding of things before he went away. Lao Tsu sat for three days and wrote 81 chapters, 5,000 words which is what we know as the Tao Te Ching (The Book of the Way and Its Power).
Translations of this book are many. Although intriguing, they left me hungry for more. The original text invited me, but I do not know Chinese.
I looked but did not find the Tao Te Ching read aloud in the original language on the internet. So I found two Chinese graduate students who spoke Mandarin as their native language and .
Recordings were made using the MBox and ProTools from Digidesign on an Apple Macintosh Powerbook.
The first part of the book (Tao) the female voice was used and the male aligned with it, the second part of the book (Te) the male voice was used and the female aligned with it.
As far as I know this is the first appearance of the Tao Te Ching read aloud in the original language on the internet.
English version will follow, as soon as i find (or make) a suitable translation.
