    The Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom Original Computer Game Soundtrack was composed by Jeff van Dyck of DNA Multimedia Audio in Australia. Jeff has been working in the computer game industry for years, and recently won the BAFTA Interactive Entertainment Award for 2001 in the music category.

    Notes from Composer Jeff van Dyck

    • Music was written using EMagic Logic Audio Platinum on an Apple Mac G4
    • Most of the instruments came from various sample libraries, which contain either individual notes of each instrument, or short phrases.
    • To learn about the musical instruments of China, I mainly searched the internet, through which I found tons of information. Also, the sample libraries themselves have great descriptions of the background of each instrument.
    • My interest and knowledge of Asian musical instruments first started when I did the soundtrack for Shogun:Total War and the Mongol Invasion/Warlord Edition.

    A Xiao Guan Zi is a sort of chinese reeded wind instrument, like an oboe, and is featured in this song. I thought I'd have fun with lots of gongs on this one. I was thinking of people dancing at a festival while writing this. The low voice is a Mongolian throat singer.
