Yes, that really is Helane
like the wide mouthed frog
the largest mouth on a four-year-old,
singing at such a young age, but...
why is the swimming pool so close to traffic?
I'm so happy you're here!
Check back each week for a new song. I hope to complete work on
the older music files weekly.
I'll have mainly original alternative pieces with an occasional
traditional jazz offering and
jazz for children with a world-beat influence and
a full band.
Helane's music is best described as lyrically deep and
introspective, but toe-tapping just the
same.
Yet, if you're in denial, it is... plenty
beautiful enough to keep deep in the background.
As a singer/somgwriter, Lanie creates dimensional (dementional?) and realistic
portraits of
American pop culture, of
the characters on her path, and of
herself.
As a musician she strives for an aesthetic ideal of prosity>>>>> where the meaning of
her poetry
and verse is expressed with symbiotic chord patterns, tone, and movement.
Her beautiful voice is clear, strong,
dynamic, unique.
She learned the Travis pick while playing guitar
with Joan Baez's "Sweet Sir Gallahad"
finding meaning for the Americana music of
southern farmers and local heroes she grew up with
in Virginia. She spent the next two summers on the beach trying
to fuse a love
of traditional folk and country with a love of 80's bands like Cracker, Cheap Trick, Psychedelic Furs...
Somewhere in the 90's, it all seemed to make sense that the poetry was already written,
she just had to dance with it and the music is an
amalgamation of her disparate loves.
