18-year-old Marianne Nowottny burst upon the music scene two years ago with her debut cd "Afraid of Me." Her new double CD set, "Manmade Girl - Songs and Instrumentals," combines intimate vocal and keyboard arrangements with off-kilter tonal angularities that expand slowly over the course of two CDs. With these twenty-four unique songs and instrumentals, Nowottny continues her exploration of lush primitive electronics generated from a Radio Shack keyboard. The end result is a smart teen critique of relationships smeared dark in a post-ironic landscape, where themes of memory and loss are deeply investigated. Manmade Girl is a unique yet accessible album. Fans of Diamanda Galas, Nico and SUN RA will find this release of great interest.
Manmade Girl was produced by Lauri Bortz and engineered by Mark Dagley. Digital mastering was done by Elliott Sharp.
