    BACKSET MAFIA

    Lo-fi play | Songs & downloads

Andru Bemis - guitar & vocals

Dave Cossey - piano & vocals

Once upon a time, two high school friends had two tape decks and some songs and some instruments and they recorded them and stuff and sometimes they turned out pretty good and they were generally cheesy love songs but sometimes they were okay anyway. Dave and Bemis would sometimes wear nice suits to church and they would sit in the back and one day an older lady at the church said they looked like the backseat mafia and they spelled it wrong but with a line over the 'e' so it would be pronounced, ya know, like 'eeee' but Bemis was too lazy to find the 'e' with the line on it on the computer, so now it looks like 'e' pronounced 'eh'. They've both moved on - Bemis opened a studio and is still writing sad love songs, and Dave majored in music and edumakation and now he teaches high schoolers to play their instruments so hopefully they will have better luck writing music than Bemis and Dave ever did.

Dave wrote the words and Bemis did the music. They actually rerecorded the song in a studio in Kalamazoo fer some indie film, but noone seems to know what ever happened with that. Maybe it's coming soon to a theatre near you... Bemis did another version of this song with 45 r.p.m. [mp3.com/45]

Dave wrote this one. The recording's real poor. That's Bemis' fault.
