"This is the 1st collaboration between these 2
distinguished American ambient composers, both
known for their remarkable soundscape music. The
now joined powers have led to an album that won't
disappoint any fan of long-drifting textural music,
for which the sf-novell by Poul Anderson Starfarers
has been the core-inspiration. Each of the 4
lengthy tracks is able to take you on a journey
through time and space, offering an almost
immediate dreamy, hypnotic atmosphere after the
play-button has been touched. Starfarer's tales
Vol 1 is a very strong effort which really makes
me look forward to Vol. 2 due for 2003."

"There are drum loops but they are surrounded
by popping, whirling and gurgling synth tones
rather than shakers. I find myself more drawn to
the rhythmic than the drone side here. The first
cut in particular has a scurrying rolling sound
that fits in the groove loosely, but always
in the pocket like an astral tabla insect skating
across the waters surface. The polyrhythms have a
feel to it that I find extends beyond tribal
ambient and I think many who like the more
classic synth schools and who don't normally care
for tribal will find something here drawing them
in." - Paul Ellis
"Two of the most consistent ambient space music
artists on the scene today have fashioned this
sound landscape, inspired by the classic science
fiction novel by Poul Anderson called "Starfarers".
Obviously a great deal of time and a considerable
amount of expertise have been brought to bear on
this project and the result is a most enjoyable
concept album ....
The timing and flow of this work is excellent, and
with the four long tracks totalling around 53 minutes
there is time for each idea to develop nicely.
Congratulations to both artists for pulling off
such an original and imaginative creation."
