AKACIA - Progressive Rock With Spirit - and a vintage classic rock feel. Check out what reviewers are saying about Akacia's debut CD - "An Other Life"! John Collinge, of Progressive Magazine says "An Other Life is a sprawling, epic-filled album that keeps the symphonic prog torch burning through four "meaty" tracks, including the 17-minute, five-movement title piece and the 23-minute, eight-movement disc closer, "Journal." . . .When Naylor croons urgently about "existential angst," "antacid blues" and "the illusion of self-sovereignty," it's easy to get hooked. . . .Michael Tenenbaum does a great job on both guitars and keyboards; things move along with plenty of punch and symphonic substance. A very worthy debut." Fred Tafton, of The Gibraltar Encyclopedia of Progressive Rock (www.gepr.net) says "In composition, recording quality and overall "feel", this album is very much like Yes' Fragile album, with some hints that further development could lead them into Close to the Edge territory. . . .I can absolutely recommend this album to anyone who thinks that early Yes is a good example of progressive rock." Jeff James of "Jeff's bizarre, questionable list of Christian prog/art rock, hopefully" (http://users2.ev1.net/~d_hoenich/list.htm) says "You may like them for their provoking lyrics. Or their interpretative drumming. Or their tireless bass. Or their keyboard wizardry. Or their guitar virtuosity. Voting for Album of 2003 may have just ended. If it's been too long since you walked around with a big, silly grin on your face, you've got to order Akacia now!" Dave Taylor of Virtuosity (home.att.net/~virtuosity) says "Billed as "Progressive Rock with Spirit" Akacia lives up to the hype. It's both quite progressive and the lyrics don't shy away from themes of faith and deliverance. Musically, Akacia has a unique, free-flowing, fusion-tinged style lifted from the early 70's progressive and psychedelic movement. Their songs are long and detailed, with lots of clean guitar riffs and nice synth and organ interludes upheld by a competent rhythm section. Comparisons are hard to make, because they are pretty original sounding. In some ways it reminds me somewhat of very early Kansas, without the violins." "An Other Life" was recently mastered and released with a new cover and lyrics included on Musea Records! For links to purchase CD, go to www.akacia.net. Or just drop by and visit a while. |
