flashlite is a project devoted to writing and recording pop/rock/punk for the new times. The setting is one of the true standards of rock music history: bass, drums, and two guitars. On top of the driving eight-note rhythms that these produce, are sprinkled verse melodies that are pure pop and sing-along, anthemic choruses.
The philosophy behind flashlite is that more is not better, better is better. Thus, flashlite limits its projects/albums to ten songs; no more, no less. This also hails from the classic age of rock, which was ’written’ almost entirely on vinyl; the truly great rock/pop albums usually consist of ten songs.
The limitation to ten songs enable more attention to the material at hand and allows the creation of a coherent and unified sound. Like a recent punk/rock band so aptly put it: All killer, no filler. flashlite believes that the collection of songs recently recorded, some of them audible here in the sounds section, is of high quality thanks to obeying these simple rules.
The ten songs included in this first project were recorded, mixed and mastered over a five day period in December 2001 and January 2002 and they represent what is flashlite. flashlite would prefer that the material be judged as a unit but if you are looking for singles material, some of the samples in the sounds section might fit that bill. Overall, the recordings are melodic and quite singable.
