update 10/28/03:
hmm.. it's been a while since I updated this page... right now i'm working on a few projects; one of which is an epic-length composition made up of audio transduced from digital photographs taken with my new sanyo picture phone. this piece will be preformed live with papageno doing post-processing on two laptops running max/msp. tenatively titled 'pcs_095', this may be preformed as a multimedia Chobits amv, i'm not sure. It depends on when we get a date for the preformance - hopefully sometime this winter. I'm thinking of making a dvd out of it. of course, this depends on whether or not the piece is good. the way I see it, the more incomprehensible it is, the more people will appreciate it as art. so as long as we make it really, really wierd, people will think it's cool - regardless of whether or not they actually like it. I've also got a few songs already in the works - one is a variation on beats from illmatic that kinda sounds like prefuse (but not on purpose). the other is a remix of a song by mr. bambu's band I can't remember that's, uh, kind of interesting. It should turn out rather well... besides that, i'm doing a project with some alan lomax recordings where i'm mixing recordings of chain gangs with hip-hop flows and beat structures. I'm thinking one song may be east flatbush project's tried by 12 over beats sequenced from sounds of picks and shovels, with accompanying groans. of course, nothing ever winds up like it sounds in my head - so it's often difficult to predict exactly what any given project will turn out like. I try to start out with ideas, and build a sound rather than picking a specific style and have to use force to make things fit. pax, -nao
