Ryan Colton has been playing music since the age of 12.
His first instrument was alto saxophone, which he played
in the school jazz and concert bands for five years while
attending school in Waynesboro, Virginia. While growing
up, music played a large part in Ryan's life. He had
grown up listening to his parents records and cassettes,
which included the likes of the Beatles, Crosy, Still, Nash,
& Young, and Simon & Garfunkel. In his early teenage years,
Ryan's sister influenced what he listend to as he took up
playing bass guitar and acoustic guitar. Ryan grew up
during the age of grunge and loved the sound of heavy bands such
as Soundgarden and Alice in Chains. At the same time
he also leaned towards more melodic sounds such as The Cure
and Smiths which would ultimately help shape his musical tastes.
During high school, punk and ska music were at the forefront and
Ryan played Saxophone in the Charlottesville, VA based
Roosevelt's Plan. RP played all over Virginia and Maryland
and stayed together until the summer of 1999. Ryan then moved to
Richmond to study Audio Engineering and hone his skills as
a producer and musician. Today Ryan is hoping to gain momentum
with a new home studio just built to record his and other
local talents' music.
