The Orlando-based groove master has already made a name for himself in the music industry, writing, arranging and producing tracks for major-label artists like PYT (Sony Records) and performing onstage with top-name stars such as classical angel Charlotte Church. This is in addition to a steady diet of writing, recording and performing with local funk-rock sensations Squeezable Hugo. But now, after years of working behind the scenes, the multi-talented frontman, singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger and producer with the punk-ass attitude – Hugo – is ready to step into the solo spotlight.
To help him in his mission, Hugo has recruited famed producer/songwriter Tony Battaglia (*NSYNC, Mandy Moore) to develop a unique-yet-familiar electronica-meets-street-rock sound blending the techno beats of Moby, the funkadelic grooves of Macy Gray and the energy of hip-hop into one undeniable package that’s both radio ready and street smart. The pair has already made quite a splash with their first track, “Mean Ol Dog (Damn, Where Did You Learn To Rip Like That).” The athletic funk rocker has been chosen as the official song of the Pro Wakeboard Tour 2002 - which includes such prestigious international wakeboard competition series events as the Van’s Triple Crown, Malibu Open and the Malibu Just Ride – currently making its way across America. Hugo has even been invited to headline a special concert taking place against the backdrop of the World Wakeboard Championships, taking place September 2002 in Orlando, Florida.
And Hugo knows something about the street: He’s a former extreme sport athlete with three years of hard-nosed, sponsored street-shredding skateboarding under his belt. But it is in on stage and in the studio where this talented Cocoa Beach, Florida-born musician pulls off his best tricks. Tapping into his natural songwriting abilities, Hugo was recruited by the female pop powerhouses in P.Y.T. to cowrite “Sweet Kisses,” a featured track on the group’s June 2001 Sony Records album P.Y.T (Down With Me). Hugo even backed Charlotte Church and KISS drummer Peter Criss at the “911 World Trade Aid” benefit in New York. Hugo also served production assistant for Making the Band stars O-Town (J Records) as Music Director for pop hopefuls Boy Crazy.
Hugo also wrote and recorded the well-received full-length A Long Tale About A Little Funk with Orlando funk-rock ensemble Squeezable Hugo, favorites on the local scene with regular gigs at top area venues like Hard Rock Live, House of Blues and Universal Studios. One of the cuts from that release, the powerful ballad “Butterfly Wings,” was featured on the nationally distributed Best of Taxi compilation. When he’s behind a mixing board or on a stage, Hugo is the featured headlining piano player at one of downtown Orlando’s hottest rock & roll comedy clubs.
