Chale News November 2003

My remix for BeatLevel, "Dark Soul (Pubik's Dark Hole Mix)," has been well received in the charts, getting to #2 (my other track, EX:TC, was holding at #1 at the time, so it couldn't get to the top spot- I really hate myself sometimes;) And their mix of my track "Dancers" is currently charging up the Progressive House charts- congrats to them!

I have been contacted by two independent film producers this month (one from Detroit, another from a film school in Germany) about using some of my music in their films. I'm looking forward to "seeing" my tracks on the screen sometime soon.

I have been getting some radio play here in Japan on a station in Yamagata after a friend of mine played my trip hop track "Slow and Low" for some of the station staff. Nice to know I am easing the morning commute a little bit. And off in Denmark some of my tribal tracks have popped-up on the playlist of a radio show called "Club Basement."

October was my first gig at the club Prestage in Ishioka Japan, and it now seems it will be turning into a bi-monthly residency. The club owner was impressed enough with my mix of deep, tribal house and techno to ask me to become a regular DJ. You can see pictures of the event on my (still budding) web site Pubik.com.

"I believe that Chris Hale is a part of a visionary movement here at mp3.com. I like all the tracks I've listened to but especially the Detroit track "Blue" which is awesome and very soothing. I love how the underground electronic movement has gelled here at mp3 with artists(like Chris) who create music that exceeds corporate artists proficiency and has been astounding me for some time now. "Listen Chris"!!!

Review of "Slow and Low"
"A class track from Chris Hale, my personal favorite from his selection.The track opens with a nice and warm analogue pad setting the scene, while the background pad and percussion build up to the main loop, before long the track then breaks into a driving King of Woolworth's style groove that set things up nicely for the main breakdown which then goes into a downtempo acid jazzy type affair with some off-chordal stuff on the synth line. I think this track is damn fine with good progression throughout the track and a nice atmosphere."
