"Confidence is everywhere the parent
of despotism - free government is founded
in jealousy [that is, distrust]; it is
jealousy and not confidence which prescribes
limited constitutions, to bind down those
whom we are obliged to trust with power."
- Thomas Jefferson , 1798
"Extreme disparity between nations in economic,
social and educational levels provokes jealousy
and discord, often putting peace in jeopardy.
For peace is not simply the absence of warfare,
based on a precarious balance of power; it is
fashioned by efforts directed day after day toward
the establishment of the ordered universe willed
by God, with a more perfect form of justice among
all humankind." -Pope Paul VI, "Populorum Progessio" 1967

it took eight and half weeks of bombing in afganistan for the US to match the number
of innocent 9/11 deaths. it's not the shear number of innocent deaths that is as distressing as the mannor in which the
govt lays the blame at the feet of others.
to them numbers are put into a proper context only when they can be exploited.
this is why they avoid keeping an official body count of innocent enemys.
there was never concern for the afgan innocents, just as there was never concern for the american innocents of 9/11.
among opposing leaderships there is no
good or evil, only the truth that
people die because of proud,
defiant agendas.
so far, this "war of terrorism" has dealt the biggest blow to thousands of innocents.
and is the world any safer from it? |
