all of these songs are 100% improvised.. no practicing, no working out the difficult bits, no premeditation.. just spontanious feeling... I'm not talking about jazz improv, where you have a set structure and you pick notes that work within a framework, I'm talking about freeform improv - it can go anywhere at any moment.. it can repeat themes or develop progressively - whatever the mood of the moment dictates.
if you have never attempted anything like this yourself, you may hear mistakes in the song, and think that the player just isn't "good"... consider the mistakes proof that the song is improvised.
the goal here is not perfection. the goal is honesty. life is not perfect - why should our music always have to be? i am an imperfect man, and i have the courage to share all of who i am with the world, mistakes and all... so it may not be the best piano playing you ever heard, but when i trip over the notes, chances are, the weight of real emotion, real tears, real confusion, or real joy caused the fumble.. i'm caught as much by suprise by the developments as you are.. just enjoy it for what it is.
welcome to my sanctuary

this song deals with reflections -- echoes, illusions, opposites... I get fairly brave with the key changes here, and use some nice jazzy chords. This one has a lot of repetition, but also a lot of variation. |

my first recorded improv.. short and sweet.. it was very emotional, and there are no obvious mistakes, but I like my newer recordings better. |
