In some Native American traditions the archetypal Crow is the keeper of the Natural
Law, those things that are true regardless of how humans may try to manage or
mitigate them. Mike Iott received the name "Medicine Crow" in a dream after a long
meditation on the nature of Existential Truth. It could also be because he has a
tendency to eat what ever is in front of him even if it is of questionable origin. Mike
began teaching himself the guitar at the age of twelve. Being self-taught it took him
years and decades to learn what sensible guitar players learn in weeks and months
of formal study. What Mike excels at is songwriting.
In the nineteen-eighties Mike was involved in forming several bands
including The Iott & Price Band and The Sentinels. These were essentially acoustic
blues combos, featuring strong vocal arrangements and the harmonica as a lead
instrument. The Iott & Price Band released several singles in the mid-eighties that
received very good reviews and virtually no airplay. The preponderance of the songs
were originals, many of which Mike still performs as Medicine Crow.
In the mid nineties Mike joined the Last Hippy Band bringing with him
some solid original songs, strong lead and harmony vocals and a driving rhythm
guitar. With the new millennium Mike has struck out on his own as Medicine Crow,
featuring his original songs, and an eclectic mix of relatively obscure cover material.
