Claire Harding
Songwriter / Producer / Film Composer
Claire Harding's specialty is creating custom songs
for film--songs whose lyrics reflect the themes
and subtext of the film's narrative and
whose music is specific to the style
that the filmmaker is looking for, be it
a big pop love song (Your Love Keeps Me
Alive),
a wistful acoustic tune (Piece of Sky), or
a mid-90s rock song (Starvin'
is Free). These aren't
copycat filler songs, they're feature
songs made-to-order.
In addition to her songwriting expertise, she
is a film composer (trained at the Berklee
College of Music) who
has created scores for independent
film and television.
This page is a listening space for some
of her song demos and works in progress.
What the Film Makers Say
About Custom Songs
About 24 hours after I showed Claire my
film
FLY CHERRY she called me back and said
'I think I have something...'
she did an incredible job of
mirroring the feel and form of our temp
music, but added theme-specific lyrics
and her personal musical style. Everyone
who sees the film comments on how
"perfect" the final [montage] song is --
as if we found a diamond. And we did.
Jessica Sharzer,
Director, FLY CHERRY
2001 Student Academy Award Winner
When I talked to Claire Harding about
"Starving Artists," she immediately
crafted songs that expressed the
specific tone I was going for with
the movie. They also were really cool.
Allan Piper,
Director, STARVING ARTISTS
The lyrics were perfectly tailored to the
main character's motivations... [songs were]
crafted to
bridge the traditional score and today's top
40 music.
Jeanine Cowen,
Composer, WESTOWN
