This is four verses of many used by Leadbelly in his rendition of John Hardy. He did this song a few different ways, much like most of his music.
But no matter the version, the truth is truth and John Hardy's "very last words" put all of his world in perspective. The song is based on a real person and real events near the end of the 1800's in West Virginia. |
