A strong emphasis on a tight funk groove combined with the jazz mindset of improvising and interacting creates an energy that envelopes listeners. That musical energy is the basis of Chakras.
Calvin Carter (drums) is an explosive player whose intensity is a powerful force in the group. A virtuoso drummer, music has been a lifelong journey for Calvin. Always holding the groove, Reggie Dennis (bass) has an energy that fuses tightly with Calvin's. A melodic and fluent bass player/composer, Reggie appreciates a wide range of musical styles. Scott Newell (guitar) grew up on rock guitar, found jazz in his early twenties and has always loved funk music. These influences blend to form an expressive quality that is also inspired by this collaboration with Calvin and Reggie.
