This CD is dedicated to one special NYC Firemen who has experienced much more than his share of tragedy and pain and the soul of his fallen Lt.
This son of a Long Island firemen is the second of four children (3 boys and a girl).
At age 13, his home caught fire and he lost his 16 and 10 year-old brothers.
When old enough, in memory of his fallen brothers and in honor of his father, he decided to become a New York City fireman.
Two years ago, his father passed away from a heart attack.
Shortly thereafter, his baby girl died just prior to birth.
On Tuesday September 11, 2001, as he was just about to head home from duty at his firehouse in Brooklyn, he was called to the scene of horrific World Trade Center attack.
On his way into one of the towers, he witnessed the unbelievable horror of workers leaping from top floors of the tower onto the streets and buildings below. In his words “one after another”.
As he reached the safety of the inside of the building, he thought that there could be nothing worse than what he had just witnessed.
15 feet into the basement of one of the towers, the tower collapsed.
The collapse created an explosive force that blew him 30 or so feet in the air into the adjacent Marriot Hotel knocking him unconscious for an unknown period of time. In complete darkness, he felt the hand of his Lt. pick him up and carry him through a maze of darkness. They made their way along dark walls and amazingly got themselves out of the building. Once out of the building, the Lt. took role call and one teammate was unaccounted for. The Lt. then went back to look for the teammate and ordered the rest of the team to safety. On their way to safety, the team met up with the missing teammate. However, the brave Lt. (Lt. Glenn Wilkinson) did not return as the debris from the collapse of the second building come down on him while he was helping others escape from the wreckage.
Today, the brave son of a fireman struggles day to day to overcome the terrible memories of his past. To ease his pain, he asked his cousin to write him a song.
Please listen.
