Franz Schubert's Ave Maria is a highlight of the vocal repertory, and was one of the first tracks I considered for arrangement. It is here presented as a guitar duet, with one guitar playing the "piano" part and the other performing the "vocal" role. The delicate lyricism of this beautiful song still comes through in an entirely instrumental performance. One minor tidbit of trivia regarding the song: Franz Schubert elected not to use the traditional "Ave Maria" text, which explains the German lyric, despite the Latin title. |

This operatic aria is one of the most recognizable tunes around. Those who aren't familiar with the "original" version may recognize the theme also by its "pop" name, "It's now or never" which was little more than a resetting of the piece with new modern, english lyrics. Still, the italianate flavor bears the distinctive colour of romance. |
