A song to help us reflect on what's left...Hidden medicines, magical songs, a sacred dance of the Yanomami. Scarlet Macaw takes to the sky... |

October in Costa Rica, 1993. Pouring down rain a week straight. Still, it's 85 degrees out. Nico and I sit in the living room and stare through the rain at the blown out surf. A subtle groove has invented itself on the guitar... "That tune doesn't go anywhere," says Nico. "I know," says Sam, "Cool, huh?" Next day. Still pouring. Same groove. Nico, "That song doesn't do anything." Sam, "I know. It's cool, huh." |

-Apple, in Italian. Maria's sitting there, hearing a tune in her head and doing her best to make it materialize on the guitar, but she doesn't play guitar. Still, I hear what she's hearing and what she's trying to play and I'm able to make sense of it. "That's it!" she says. Lyrics are mostly Maria's too. |
