There are (at least) three famous organ toccatas: Toccata d-minor from J.S.Bach (first recording on this page), Toccata F-major from C.-M. Widor (see top of page, too) and this one, Toccata G-major from Theodore Dubois. Listen to the romantic melody in the middle of this great piece! No. 3 of "Douze Pieces". |

"Andante Cantabile". People always ask me to play it again on the next occation because it has such a lovely melody. The movement is in ABABA style, but the second time the A theme is acommpanied with triplet figures (although the theme goes in quavers!). The second variation of the A theme is in semiquavers with 6 voices. The end is a typical romantic one, played with an extra flute on the main manual. |

Did you know that Bach wrote modern music?? If not, then listen to the last minute of this unusual piece! It starts with a swinging introduction, continues with a glorious theme (often used for weddings!) and concludes with an unbelievably unconventional ending. Some people would call the last part "modern music", because it has really unconventional harmonies. If you want more Bach, just scroll down! |

This hymn is part of the "Orgelbüchlein" (BWV 608). It's a canon: The first voice is in the soprano, the second about one measurement later in the tenor (played with the pedal!). |

For me this is the most impressive organ composition of all! It has beautiful melodies and really extraordinary harmonies! It starts with a romantic theme which is variated to a melody in semiquavers. Suddenly the full organ sound interrupts the peaceful atmosphere with strong chords - leading to a melancholic answer which is then used as new theme. This theme develops more and more and builds up more and more power and (after several attempts) finally leads to the majestic ending with big chords (8 voices) in great fortissimo! The bass voice is played with the very low Fagot 32' stop that goes just till the lower end of human sound conception capabilities (about 20 Hz in this recording)! |
