Motorplant organized in
Lebanon, New Hampshire in 1994, and have released three
full CDs and two CD Singles. Since its inception, Motorplant
has rocked venues from Boston to LA, with its cutting-edge
music, performing more than 1,500 shows in the past eight
years. During this time, the band has found acceptance
and achievement in all aspects of the music industry.
Motorplant released its first full-length CD, self-titled,
in 1994, selling a significant number of copies at shows.
The single "B.T.F.T.U./Batteries" was released in 1995,
followed by "Emily/Life Juice" in 1996. The band‚s second
full length, 1998‚s "Inside The Walnut" was ranked the
#1 regional release at New Hampshire commercial radio
in '98. The CD was also added to rotation at 254 college
radio stations, charting in the Top 30 at 47 schools,
reaching #1 at WXIN (RI), and #2 at KRUX (NM), & WSFX
(PA.)
The band was invited to perform on ESPN's X 2Day Show,
and also licensed "Inside The Walnut" to ESPN for use
during the 1999 Winter X Games and the X 2Day Show. MTV‚s
television series "Road Rules" licensed songs for the
1999 & 2000 season and ABC TV‚s prime time series "Making
The Band" licensed the single "Broken Heart Disease" during
it‚s premiere season.
In December of 1999, the band began recording their follow
up to the critically acclaimed "Inside the Walnut".
"American Postcard" was a year and a half in
the making as the band self-financed the project using
gig money to fund the entire operation. Produced by Ken
Balon (Motorplant) and Andre Maquera (Trey Anastasio of
Phish, Neil Schon) and mastered by Jonathan Wyner of M
Works Mastering (David Bowie, Aimee Mann, Letters To Cleo),
the band was able to work at an appropriate pace for them
to capture their performances, arrangements and production
goals as they had envisioned. Ken states, "The entire
recording experience was a pleasure; the process was exciting
and satisfying. All of us knew the band members, Andre
and myself, just from the quality of the raw tracks that
we were working on a potentially significant recording.
We certainly captured the sound and energy we were looking
for."

Motorplant utilizes many musical styles on their latest
effort which can be heard weaving between the songs, overall
"American Postcard" is a pop rock recording
with some punk influence here, some funk there, and a
touch of metal. With influences ranging from Led Zeppelin
and Collective Soul to Eve 6 and Blink 182, "American
Postcard" combines the best of these styles to create
a sophisticated-garage band feel. As Ken puts it "We
look to 'American Postcard' to accelerate Motorplant‚s
notoriety. Additionally the songwriting, the recorded
performances, and basically the entire CD package reflect
a wizened maturity."
Motorplant is signed to Shiretown Records, which is distributed
to indie retail by the Orchard, and have endorsements
with Rapco, Budweiser, and The Dare Strap. Blue Mountain
Guitar Center, W. Lebanon, NH sponsors the band. Motorplant
tours their home region perpetually averaging 190 dates
per year, with four national tours to its credit and currently
booking a fifth national tour.
