Welcome to KAZI
History:
Based out of Chicago, "KAZI" is a one man project. Kazi Mohammad Imdadul Haque grew up in the mean streets of Bangladesh. He started composing music when he was twelve, and began playing in local venues when he was sixteen. As part of his survival in the music scene, Kazi had to learn to play many instruments. He learnt how to play the guitar, bass, drums and keyboards. He went to a music school to learn how to sing. After migrating to the USA, Kazi has managed to focus his musical talent and his past experience into a creative music making project. Kazi's songs will trap you in the experience of the musician and the songwriter. Life, frustration, judgment, rejection, happiness and melancholy drips from the powerful lyrics of Kazi, culled from his diaries of poems. "KAZI" is his first demo in English.
Arrangement:
Kazi's song arrangement is very intersting. His song "My Serenade" starts like an industrial rock song. The melody switches between industrial and techno, but the lyrics turn the song into a serenade. The lyrics talk about a man wanting to make love who does not have much to offer but himself. The song "Down" talks about Kazi's past. His pain in fighting poverty, his frustrations about his life that did not turn out the way he wanted. The melody shifts from slow rock to fast paced heavy metal. "Down" starts with a taste of mystical sound with thunder, heavy guitar punch and rib-breaking drums. The song starts slowly and then speeds up to a beautiful but roaring, rocking bombshell.
Style:
"KAZI" blends hardcore rock, hip-hop, metal, techno, industrial and world beat together. His work may be classified as modern rock. His crunchy guitar brings the taste of 80's and 90's hard rock. His synths gives you the pleasure of 70's and 80's style pop music. When he mixes his vocals with his music, it becomes a beautiful mixture of modern rock. Unique in all sense.
Instrumentation:
"KAZI" uses a variety of acoustic, electronic and software music creation tools. Kazi uses midi and real instruments in his songs. The midi sounds come from Sound Blaster soundcard's midi sound banks. The guitar, bass and drum sounds were sampled and then edited to fit the songs. The actual instruments were pathced to a pre-amp, then went through a series of effects processors. Kazi uses his home studio, which is also known as Chicago Digital Studios, to capture his samples. The Rubberduck growling noise and synth sounds come from software synthisizers and midi keyboards. They were captured using a PC and soundcard. Vocals were captured using a condenser microphone running through a pre-amp and then a Peavey effects box. The lower frequency vocal responses were minimized to create the unique vocal effects.
Sound Engineering:
The mixing was completely done on PC's using various software. Mastering was also done using a PC software. All acoustics were captured at Kazi's home studio which is also known as Chicago Digital Studios.
How the songs were put together:
The songs were put together track by track, instrument by instrument, using PC's and soundcards. First, the drums were sampled and recorded. Then the basslines, guitars, synths and finally the vocals were sampled and recorded. No pitch correction was used for vocals. The only effects that went into the vocals are compression, equalizer, pan and reverb. The synths and guitars used dozens of effects including distortion, wah, delay, reverb, chorus, compressor, tremelo and pitch shift.
Equipment:
Hardware - Gibson Les Paul Classic Sunburst guitar, Kramer designer series Imperial guitar, Fender standard bass, Custom made Sitar, Evolution keyboard, Miditech keyboard, various Yamaha keyboards, Slingerland Universal Grind Set drums, Sony condenser microphone, 1 GHz Athlon PC, 500 MHz PIII PC, Creative Sound Blaster Live and Audigy soundcards, Peavey SDR 20/20 studio effects processor, Tone Works AX1G guitar processor, various boss effects pedals, homemade pre-amp, homemade power-amp and cabinet, various dynamic microphones.
