UMPHREY'S MCGEE |
In December of 1997, two of South Bend's up and coming bands merged to form Umphrey's McGee. Seeking to blend the eclectic genres of funk, jazz, rock and bluegrass, they quickly amassed a considerable repertoire of original pieces and covers. Mixed meter, polyrhythmic textures and dynamic contrast are all hallmarks of their sound. Adding to the mix is each of the members' strong ear for improvisation and willingness to take the music in unforeseen directions. As a whole they produce an original brand of music-it embraces a number of musical avenues while refusing to be pigeonholed. "Example 1" was recorded live by Digital Club Network on November 29, 2000 at Double Door in Chicago, IL. Click here to see the entire live audio/video show from that evening!!
