Who are the 26 Family?
26 Family is a platoon of mcs and producers who have
honed their talents in the trenches of the DC music
scene. Uniquely apparent in every track is these
artists' desire to investigate the daily truths of
life to an unparalelled degree. The players begin
with D-Rex, whose lyrical delivery is as varied as the
jazz rifts that encompass the thoughts of this Queens
native. His delivery and equally focused imagery
convey the genuis of a genre that preceded hip-hop,
and very well may represent its future. CRW (Cool
Running Water), on the other hand, is more aggressive,
forthright. His rhymes are as subtle as a left hook,
or better yet the right jab the sets it up,
characteristic of his Harlem, NY upbringing. The
galvanizing force that holds these seeming extremes
together is the aptly named Oxygen. Ox's beats are
clear, distinct, and a welcome breath of fresh air
when compared with the repetition that dominates
today's rap music. The manner in which he molds sounds
into collages are as endless as the vault of beats he
has compiled over the years. Throw in into the mix
Q-Marvelous, Big East, and the long awaited Gladwraps?
(has anyone seen him?!),the 26 Fam displays a cohesive
musical vibe that is not only unique, but unrivaled.
It is only a matter of time before these men are
recognized and remembered as reviving the long missed
