| Duluth, Minnesota-based Low, sometimes described as "Joy Division meets Simon & Garfunkel," play songs stripped to their bare essentials: slow tempos, quiet voices, powerful lyrics, and minimal instrumentations. Formed in 1993 by guitarist/singer Alan Sparhawk and percussionist/singer Mimi Parker, the band added bassist Zack Sally a year later, after John Nichols left. The band has four full-length albums and a handful of EPs and singles, first released by Vernon Yard Records and more recently by Kranky Records.
