In 1972, the group released “Hot Rod Lincoln,” a surprise Top Ten hit (later sampled by Sugar Ray on “Mean Machine”). Commander Cody resisted the booming style of '70s rock, favoring a minimalist mix of classic country, rockabilly, and rock ‘n roll.
