Paul Watson from Latin group Luna Roja and Chris Shreenan-Dyck from Knot Studios teamed up to make new music that merges organic and electronic sounds, thus creating a new genre, 'Biotechno'. The end product, a track called 'Pac Daniels' uses samples from the Luna Roja CD and a host of bizarre home-recorded sounds including Jack Daniels pouring, a cuica made from a margarine container and dental floss, a charrango (a South American mandolin-like intrument made out of a dead armadillo), a Snoppy jaw harp, spoons and lips on bottles, and a cameo appearance from everyone's favourite video game character...all set against a Garifuna (Black Carib) backbeat played on an Egyptian clay durbek. Can you say 'multicultural'? Guaranteed 100% genetically-modified musical ecstasy! |
