New York native Alana Davis established herself in 1997 with her debut album Blame It On Me, which featured the hits "32 Flavors" and "Crazy." Drawing on influences as diverse as Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell and Lee Morgan, the album won widespread acclaim for its smart, soulful songs and for Alana's earthy, sensuous voice. Alana toured extensively, including dates on the Lilith Fair tour.
Alana's new album Fortune Cookies is another lush, exquisitely crafted collection -- eleven soul-inflected acoustic pop songs, infused with stylish flourishes of jazz, funk and folk. As on her debut, Alana's luxurious and affecting voice is the centerpiece, bearing the songs aloft with elegance, honesty and emotion. Alana wrote or co-wrote eight songs, and even one listen makes it clear that at 25, she is still wise beyond her years.
Ed Tuton, producer of Blame It On Me, as well as music by Maxwell and others, returns to produce most of the tracks on Fortune Cookies; the remainder were co-produced by Alana and Josh Deutsch with one song by hip hop superproducers The Neptunes.
