"Music moves the world..."
Tony Low, a founding member of the renowned garage-psychedelic pop band The Cheepskates, has been writing and recording his songs since the 1980's. After several years in The Cheepskates and more recently Static 13, Tony went solo in 1998. "I think I play real music for unreal times. My songs definitely capture a spirit or mood which most everyone can relate to and each tune stands on its own."
The Cheepskates recorded and released several acclaimed albums and EP's from 1984 through 1991. The band was included in the fourth edition of the Trouser Press Record Guide, where rock journalist Dave Sprague called their music "a timeless pleasure."
In 2000, DANDELION IN THE YEAR OF THE ROOSTER was released. The six-song EP featured songs about time, lost love, and hope. The highlights of the disc are "Falling Away," an upbeat rocker which ties in time travel with a soured love affair, and "This Country Needs A War," Tony's answer to the infamous school shootings which now seems oddly prophetic in the wake of the 9/11 tragedy.
DANDELION IN THE YEAR OF THE ROOSTER received lavish praise in the indie-pop press and left fans waiting expectantly for more.
Presenting SLEIGHT OF HAND, Tony's new full-length, 12-song opus. Included are standouts such as "I Will Listen," "Girl," "Sleight Of Hand," "When The Good Times Go Away," and "Rev" (which is also a featured tune on the newly-released INTERNATIONAL POP OVERTHROW VOL. 5 compilation on Not Lame Records. There is also a cover version of Phil Ochs' country & western-tinged "Chords Of Fame."
Tony's brand of folk/pop is a breath of fresh air in an era dominated by "cute" teen pop tarts and boy bands. SLEIGHT OF HAND will turn many heads in the pop music universe.
With many solo shows under his belt - including performances on both coasts - Tony Low is ready to offer his latest heartfelt album to the world. His songs are compelling and, most importantly, honest. Check out DANDELION IN THE YEAR OF THE ROOSTER and SLEIGHT OF HAND and hear again how real music is supposed to feel!

This song is based on a true story I read a few years ago in the New York Times. It was basically the sad story of a woman who lost her business and fortune to drugs. She really was the "...talk of the town" and was reduced to prostitution, needle marks and living in a tunnel under the street in Manhattan. Needless to say, her plight moved me enough to write this tune. |

This is one of those break-up songs which is very personal and powerful. The "...screaming frogs down at the pond" really did exist! From a very strange, messed up period in my life. A very garage/psych pop song too. |

Sometimes we all have to just shut up and listen to that small, quiet voice within us that shows us the way to go. Especially when we're not sure where to turn to... "Just be quiet and listen..." |
