As one friend has pointed out, my music is not
for everyone. (Nor was it intended to be.) But
unlike with much recent "art" music you're apt to
find it both accessible and charged with
emotion and visual evocations. The enjoyment of a
piece like Satyricus appears to have little
relation to one's musical training or sophistication.
This surprises and pleases me. Still, the
uninitiated, never having been awed by the intricate
architecture and interplay of voices and textures in
a great work, are apt to miss much of the fun. If
that's you, repeated auditions of any 'difficult'
work by one of the established masters might just
open up a whole new golden world of sound for you.
