RAMAT GAN CHAMBER ORCHESTRA - ISRAEL
Founded 48 years ago by the conductor Michael Taube, the Israel Chamber Orchestra Ramat-Gan was the first of its kind in Israel. Since then numerous well known artists have performed with the RCO: Bertini, Inbal, Comissiona, Rampal and others. The orchestra appears in various festivals, among them the Israel Festival 2000.
The Ramat Gan Chamber Orchestra, which consists of twenty permanent string players, is supported by the Cultural Department of the Municipality of Ramat-Gan. In 1996 the conductor Aviv Ron was appointed music director.
The RCO is known for its outstanding programs and performances, and for its support of contemporary Israeli music, which also includes a collaboration with the Composition Department at Bar-Ilan University.
"The Ramat-Gan Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Aviv Ron, is an example of a musical group that has significant cultural importance in the community in which it plays. The group commissions and plays Israeli music, and under Rons direction, offers its subscribers rich, uncompromising programs." From the newspaper Haaretz 17.02.00
