I learned to play this so I could accompany a singer in a club act we were putting together. She split; I kept the song. And decided to sing it myself.

In the early 70s, Randy Newman's music was a breath of fresh air to this classically-trained pianist. His playing taught me simplicity and rhythmic groove; his unpretentious vocal style helped me to take my own singing a little more seriously. |

I recorded this jazzy original in 1993. I recently listened to it for the first time in years and was startled by its almost ferocious energy. Some nice lyricism, too, I think.
