    They said this, honest!
It's da Middle Spunk Creek Boys, Myrtle!

Music from the vaults of the Middle Spunk Creek Boys

Thanks for dropping by! Here are some examples of our music from the past 34+ years. Our first performance was in 1968* at the old Scholar Coffeehouse in Minneapolis, Minnesota. (Another youngster sharing that stage at the time was Leo Kottke. Bob Dylan played there too, but that was a little before our time...)
While our two recent critically-acclaimed albums "No One Else" and "Table for One" mostly feature our own distinctive songs, there are also quite a few favorites from the Bluegrass tradition. Our first two albums "The Middle Spunk Creek Boys" (1976) and "I'm With the Band" (1993) also had original material, but with many more traditional Bluegrass songs in the mix. All four albums are available from CDBaby--see the links at the left. All are performed in our own Middle Spunk style (whatever in the heck that is).  There is also an MP3.com "Grassoholics" album available here that is a "greatest hits" compillation of songs from our four albums and from unreleased live material. Our new bluegrass Gospel album "A House of Gold" is available from CDBaby now! (Click here.)

"The music of the Middle Spunk Creek Boys comes from a world-wise place that can only be gotten to over time." Alan Munde
"They represent what's best about the bluegrass scene..." Tim O'Brien
"Very smooth and professional, good listening!"  Bluegrass World
"Le potage est très chaud." Le Monde

Also check out "The Middle Spunk Creek Boys" MP3 radio station, which has many songs not included on this page.

     Where the songs are from
Most songs are from our four "regular" albums. Two are from sampler albums recorded by the Minnesota Bluegrass and Old Time Music Association. The rest are taken from live tapes recorded over our 34+ years.

A HOT instrumental from our 1993 "I'm With the Band" CD that featured most of the musicians who had been in the band over its first 25 years. This song features the wonderful Barry St. Mane on banjo, John Niemann on fiddle, Bruce Jaeger on mandolin and Andy Kozak on Dobro, along with Jerry Flynn on bass and ironman Alan Jesperson on guitar.

A stunning quartet number from our new Bluegrass Gospel album "A House of Gold." This was recorded live in the studio (no overdubs) with Mark Kreitzer on lead vocal, Alan Jesperson on guitar and baritone vocal, Bruce Jaeger on mandolin and bass vocal, and Chuck Kreitzer doing the tenor vocal. We've been doing this song steadily for 25+ years.

This is a great song by our first fiddle player, Rudy Darling. We've performed it off and on for 30 years (we're doing it again now); here it is from our first album recorded in 1976, with Rudy doing the singing and fiddling. (Thanks for the permission, Rudy!)
