If the keywords
printed above haven't deterred you: Welcome to Stammer! Music
speaks its own language, explaining music with words is usually
a sign of weakness. So the best thing you can do is stop reading
now and just listen with an open ear and an open mind to the music.
If I continue to write more words here it will only be to sort
out the audience, stimulating the curiosity of some and causing
rejection of others.
Again: Music
speaks its own language. I try to take this statement to its last
consequences. There is no story, no plot, no message behind my
notes. Melody and harmony lose their protagonism and pure sound,
being an extraordinary means of conveying emotion, plays a seminal
role in my music.
"Pure sound" is of course quite an ambiguous expression.
Apart from being produced synthetically by computer and synthesizer
and liberated from the tyranny of melody and harmony, I see fortuitousness
and purposelessness as important elements of pure sound. Being
almost a non-musician myself, the lack of control and dominance
over the music and over the instruments is in my view an advantage.
I just try to bring my synthesizer and computer to life, setting
some parameters and boundaries and being
alert on all the interesting things that might happen.
Having said
all this, I am convinced of the necessity of structure, of some
kind of frame to isolate and highlight the found sounds. Melody
and harmony are never completely absent in my music. Rhythm is
usually a basic element and besides: the human mind is incredibly
capable of finding order and harmony in apparent chaos. Balancing
on the borderline of noise and melody, of chaos and harmony is
what I see as one of the most powerful ways of communicating emotion
in music.
If this all
seems still very obscure to you, I recommend you to have a look
at my personal homepage or simpler: just listen
to the music.
Being physical sound of such importance, I strongly advice you
to use the 'Hi-Fi" listen or download option. The real audiophile
should definitively buy the original CDs which can be ordered
at my homepage.
