Common Man - Jamestown's Other Folk-Rock Legend
Everyone has heard of 10,000 Maniacs, the legendary folk-rock band from Jamestown, New York. Lesser-known but often as powerful and inventive was common man, a quartet that held out against the cover-band fever and apathy of Southwest New York.
From 1987 to 1991, the original common man played clubs and venues all over the region, showing audiences that cutting-edge folk-rock could come from the inner folds of Metalheadland.
Formed by Eric Zweig, Michelle Merwin, Larry Johnson and Mike "Noodle" Sudul in late 1987 at Jamestown Community College, common man recorded many of their originals and a few choice covers, none of which have previously been released to the world. In short, if you never heard CM live, you never heard them. They were a wide-ranging and powerful act and their influence lasted regionally for many years.
The musicians:
- Eric Zweig - guitars and vocals
- Michele Merwin - keyboards and vocals
- Larry Johnson - bass and vocals on "I Want To Be A Metalhead"
- Mike "Noodle" Sudul - drums

There's more around you than you may ever see, unless you open your eyes and look for it. Feel the feel. Taste the taste. Control can have its limitations. |

Alienation in a communal world, people closing in from all sides, oppressing, demanding, not caring. Must I stand alone? |
