“The Legend of the Buffalo Feather” is a fable in the truest since of the word. An enchanting tale of the relationship between an old and wise shaman and his four-year-old great grandson whom the old man calls Shadow Walker. In his last days the Shaman is visited in a dream by the Great Spirit and is informed he has but one Big Wonder left to give his people. Shadow Walker sobs as the Old Man flies away on the Magnificent Beast (a great winged buffalo given by the Great Spirit) for his final quest to find all the truth and wisdom he can glean from the four corners of the world. The old man returns to find the greatest truth and wisdom in his own great grandson’s clear and simple words. The story is set near the Great Lakes among the People of the Place of the Fire (the translation of Potawatomi) |
