"I've always considered myself primarily a maker of trance music. To me, trance music is a much more encompassing thing, deeper than some of the other similar related genres imply. To me, trance music is more an abstract construct rather than actual instruments. It can include rock guitars, beat drums; synths, drones, dissonance, environmental, and so on. Oftentimes, it can be more than one of these things at the same time." A Produce

The title track of the new A Produce album explores slowed down polyrhythms played against each other, juxtaposed against Tibetan bell like tones in an odd 14/8 meter. There's something wonderfully off kilter about this mysterious, hypnotic piece.

The latest A Produce CD, "Smile on the Void" is about the sleep cycle. This track is one of the two final tracks on the album has to do with the awakening/arising phase of the cycle, gradually awakening and becoming conscious of the world around. It carries with it a dark percussive pulse supplemented by an array of solos, beginning (and ending) with a dream-like flute and followed later by a Michael Brooks style guitar solo. Nearly 11 min., this one takes awhile to download, but the wait is worth it.

This piece was realized with two long time AP collaborators: keyboardist Ruben Garcia and guitarist Scott Fraser, who provided ambient sounds and Fripp-like guitar washes. The deepest point on the SOTV album experience.

This is the title track from AP's '96 release, and the last in the series of one of a kind custom packaging CD's beautifully letter-pressed at Independent Project Press in Arizona. This spacious, hypnotic track is a swirling mix of breathy synth sounds and industrial factory ambience.

The title track from AP's second full-length album by the same name was released in 1994. This hypnotic, rhythmic pulsing piece features sitar, synth, tablas, shakers and a host of other "undefined objects."

This piece originally appeared in a studio version on AP's "Land of a Thousand Trances" (1994). This previously unreleased live version very nearly obsoletes the original. Captured at a club in Santa Monica called The Living Planet in 1996, with frequent contributor/collaborator Scott Fraser on guitar. This is a relatively large download, but well worth the wait!

The first track of the CD, "Altara" was a collaboration with M Griffin, founder of the Hypnos label. The overall tone of this track, indeed, the entire album, is somewhat ominous and drone-oriented. This project was a departure from previous A Produce albums, more into the Hypnos ozone. Deep and dark, these moving masses of sound slowly wrap listeners and draw them in.

The studio version of "The Dreaming Room" was originally released on AP's 1994 release, "Land of a Thousand Trances." In 1996, AP, along with guitarist Scott Fraser, did a performance at a short-lived club in Santa Monica called The Living Planet. This version was captured, very nearly obsoleting the original studio rendition. Dark, pulsating, soaring, powerful, Fraser's Fripp-like guitar solo pushes the piece onto a completely different level. Previously unavailable until now, this live version of "The Dreaming Room" captures an inspired performance. Twelve minutes in length, it's a longer than usual download, but worth it! Also available on this site is the companion piece from the same concert, "Heart of the Dunes" (also from 1000T).

This A Produce track was done with long-time collaborator Ruben Garcia in one take in real time in Summer '97. It has an overall dark Budd-like quality, slowed down, and then slowed down some more, just to be sure. Originally released as a part of the Hypnos' 2-disc space music compilation, "The Other World."

This is a stripped down version of the fully produced track which appeared on "Land of a Thousand Trances" (1994). This version appeared on the compilation album "White Sands" which was mainly comprised of unreleased and rare A Produce tracks. This mesmerizing, shimmering solo version stands alone in its own right.

Yet another out-take of the early "Reflect" sessions, this one with collaborator Pierre Lambow. Like other tracks from that period, this is a brief sound vingette, Eno-style with a dark Budd-like piano. Unlike "Sunstream," the other out-take from "Reflect" offered on this site and was included as a bonus track on the 97 re-issue of "Reflect", "The Barrier" has never been released till now. Created during the '89-'91 period when Produce & Lambow called themselves In the Distance.

This track comes from the first AP album, "The Clearing," (LP), originally released in 1988. Other tracks from this album were re-issued on the 1995 release "White Sands," a compilation of rare, unreleased, and alternate-mix tracks. For the first time since the limited release of "The Clearing, this opening track is now available to those interested in tracing the continuity through A Produce's subsequent albums. Recorded with Scott Becker on guitar, who at the time was editor/publisher of Option magazine.

Yet another rhythmic out-take from the extremely rare first A Produce LP, "The Clearing" (1988). The title possibly takes its inspiration from the Jackson Pollock style of numbering pieces, but in fact, it was the second track on the second side of the original LP (remember them?). Short by ambient standards, this piece is more in the style of a Brian Eno sound vingette than a full fledged piece. Other tracks from this limited release from 1988 were issued on "White Sands," (1995,) an artist compilation/retrospective. This is an opportunity for the curious to hear what went before. Though done with minimal equipment, many of the threads of these ideas have continued today in A Produce's past and present work.
CD: The Clearing   Label: Trance Port
Credits: a produce - guitars, piano, drum machines
