One of the newest alternative/hardcore acts of the zero years, MINDPHYX was formed in Sacramento, CA in December of 1999 by guitarist Ian Watts, vocalist Brandon Ballin, bassist Robert Turner, and drummer Crist Giotes. All four band members have been brothers for the past ten years searching for the right time to express their individual music styles in one combined effort. Ian and Robert formed Phorenzik back in 1993, a popular death metal band at the time, Brandon and Crist trying to do the same with their short lived band Masticate. All four have played clubs in the Sacramento and San Francisco Bay Areas in various bands. While the boys retained their angry intensity and penchant for difficult lyrical subjects, their need for songwriting became more imminent, culminating in the long over due formation of MINDPHYX... The music has been described as A whole new approach to heavy music with direction and emotion. A wide variety of styles are mixed here.. The music is predominately heavy but with a lot of clean vocals and guitars and tasty rhythm section grooves. Sometimes tribal, sometimes psychedelic, always intense!... Thanks to the brilliance of Justin Weis at Trakworx, MINDPHYX has put together a five-song demo that will definitely open minds.
