This Brooklyn, NY rock band was part of the late '70s CBGBs Punk/New Wave scene. They were also backup tour band for The Monkees, and studio band for Rupert Holmes. The Laughing Dogs first appeared at CBGB's in 1977. Here, they shared the stage with such artists as Television, The Ramones, Willie De Ville, John Cale, The Police, and The Kojacks. Within a year, The Laughing Dogs signed a contract with Columbia Records. The Dogs enjoyed two critically acclaimed albums (The Laughing Dogs and The Laughing Dogs Meet Their Makers) and played to concert audiences with Pat Benatar, Peter Frampton, Cheap Trick, Talking Heads, Blondie, and Patti Smith. Their singles, "Get 'im Outa Town", "Reason for Love", and "Johnny Contender" were hits on the Billboard charts. The Laughing Dogs also toured as the band behind Mickey Dolenz and Davey Jones of The Monkees. Their musical influences include the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, the Young Rascals, Steely Dan, the Rolling Stones, The Band, the Beach Boys, Todd Rundgren, Chuck Berry, Carol King, and Burt Bacharach. The Laughing Dogs are still recording today, and here is a chance to hear some of their music. For more, see The Laughing Dogs MP3 site and The Laughing Dogs at Molehill.
