Demus vs. Demus
is not the usual story about a divorce, but the most unusual one of a composer who loves to play his own compositions (or of a pianist who loves to compose ... ).
I had great predecessors indeed from Bach to Rachmaninoff; but after the latter's demise, most composers felt secretly that their things proved too unrewarding, so they left the actual playing kindly to others; and that's a great pity, because the piano wants - above all - to be played! The very best piano music seems to flow equally out of the Head, the Heart and the Hands - the three H's (write: aitches or aightches - that's another triumph of creative spelling, far beyond EAUX!). I'm quite sure mine does - so may it please some Hands, some Heads, and - above all some HEARTS!
