Bleeding overdriven guitar-hero rawk (a'la early Nebula) into
heart-fucked-cruising-main lyrics and vocal harmonies reminiscent of Layne
Stayley/Jerry Cantrell, The Merchants recent "Cheyenne Super" release is a
slab almost worthy of sitting alongside anyone's Fu Manchu, Firebird, or
Thin Lizzy albums. A slight overstatement? Perhaps, but given some
more time gigging and a better financial situation to ensure even more
substantial studio time, one that is not entirely far-fetched; future
recordings could really stomach the punch of their live set.
Rhythm guitarist Jon Pulling's corrossive sound complements Bob's
Hendrix wah/Buck Dharma styling and soloing, while the heavy hitting drumming of
Rex the rocker adds a free-form feel to the group's momentum. Throw
in former Nikki Sixx fanatic Pat Dawson's clear and solid low end, and
you've got The Merchants-- Kent, Washington's newest favorite sons,
dethroning the once-godly Metal Church. Heshers, stoners, and space
truckers unite! Pick up "Cheyenne Super" or see The Merchants live.
