Alvin Buckner was born in Madison County, NC in 1897. He grew up in an area just north of Asheville surrounded by the Blueridge and Great Smoky Mountains. Alvin spent his youth roaming those mountains hunting, fishing and exchanging stories with many of it's colorful inhabitants. Storytelling came natural to him hearing his father, Levi, a Civil War veteran, hold court on their front porch every Sunday spinning yarns to the locals. Alvin passed away in 1982 but fortunately many of his stories were preserved on tape by his son James. These turn of the century stories reveal an age of innocent lifestyles forever lost in America.
