As a child, I lived along the banks of the mighty Connemaugh river in Johnstown, PA. Johnstown has had three major floods over the years; the first and most tragic of the floods occured in 1889, and claimed 2209 lives. The real tragedy in 1889 was that the government failed to heed the citizen's fear and warnings about the deteoration of the earthen dam. Rumors circulated around the small town of the danger from the dam, and eventually, the rains came and the tragedy unfolded. The song is a grim history lesson and a reminder of what can happen when the government ignores the collective voice of its citizens. |

My first exposure to music was with my grandmother, Ruth Cosgrove. She had an old player piano that she had won in a slogan contest by coining the phrase ''Children of today are the Musicians of Tomorrow.'' We spent a lot of time at that piano, and Gram was a life-long supporter of my music. She was my biggest fan. |
