A little on the blues/Jazz border, a nice slow late-night dance piece.
Pamela May was one of the finest British ballerinas of all time; noted for her grace, elegance of line and beauty. She still has all three in abundance and happens to be my mother in law. For a brief biography see:

A wordless song for acoustic guitar, sea and whale. Actually this is a small guitar suite mixing celtic and classical influences. And a whale. |

I love this tune, so with a little help from Greg Parsonage on the keys, I thought it would be nice to do it. |

What it says. Once again, Greg on Keys and Taunton on drums. The first take is elsewhere on this page. The guitar part bears very little relationship to this one. |

Sometimes I think this is one of the nicest purely improvisational tracks I have recorded. But then sometimes I think it is a lovely chord progression with me widdling all over it. |

A little more laid back than usual. This kind of thing has be be improvised, or at least sound like it. The latter is a skill I have yet to manage successfully. If you are a guitarist and would like a go, I have put the backing track to this at the bottom of the page. That took a couple of weeks to get right. The guitar part is one take. |

A little tribute to Mr Chet Atkins CGP. A fine gentleman who died on Saturday June 30th 2001. He will be greatly missed. With Chet going barely a week after the great John Lee Hooker, the world is indeed diminished. |

An unusual instrumental in three related parts. The first starts out with a strong disonance, but quickly resolves to a simple lead -in to the second section, which shows some influence from Mussorgsky. The final section borrows heavily from Franz Schubert's "Ave Maria" which is (for me) the finest song ever written. |

In many ways I think this is the finest piece of music I have ever written. It has a sparse almost bohemian quality, but conjures emotion in a way few things on this page manage. |

This is possibly the most powerful piece of music on this site. It is also the simplest. I was particularly pleased to see it reach a top ten chart position. I adapted this arrangement from Bill Broonzy, but I couldn't really do it his way, I don't quite have the voice for it. |

A spoof folk song. It isn't really rude at all. It goes down very well with most audiences. It causes particular merriment if you get some volunteers to act out the parts in mime, like a mummers play. |

Every "Songster" in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries played a version of this murder ballad. This is modelled on Mississippi John Hurt's version. The improvised solo towards the end was a bit of fun. |
